Ahoy! The Symphony Tacoma Brass Quintet is hitting the high seas and taking you with them! Join the crew of the mighty brass-beards for a sea-themed musical adventure. On this musical voyage, the brass quintet will search for musical treasures like timbre, pulse, dynamics, and range. The TSO Brass Quintet will perform a variety of tunes inspired by pirates, the sea, and Russian Sailors to name a few. Instrument Petting Zoo begins at 1:30pm!

Water Passion

We present the rare and powerful Water Passion After St. Matthew by Tan Dun (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).  Commemorating the 250th Anniversary of J.S. Bach, the work features soloists, chorus, and water percussion:  bowls and basins filled with water, manipulated by hand and amplified by contact microphones.  Tan Dun’s music is a fascinating, refreshing blend of Western classical music and traditional Chinese ritual. More than 40 high school musicians from Tacoma Youth Symphony Association (TYSA) will perform side-by-side with a similar number of adult musicians from the Symphony Tacoma orchestra during a first-time-ever concert presented jointly by the two organizations!  The program will include a student soloist from TYSA selected during its annual concerto competition. Symphonic Django
