Education is central to the Symphony’s mission. Our education programs annually serve more than 7,000 people ages two to adult.

For Families

Mini Maestros is a 4-concert series offering whimsical and educational performances to families with kids 2-8. Each concert highlights a different family of orchestra instruments and children get to try them out at our instrument petting zoos.

Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, Eternal Light is a community commission and arts collaboration with students from the Pacific Northwest designed to bring happiness and hope to our world. The  “musical collage” is a compilation of the students’ original music, poetry, artwork and dance inspired by Lux Aeterna, or “Eternal Light,” from Mozart’s Requiem. The call for submissions occurs in the summer/fall and the final production premieres in the winter. Watch the 2021 video >

In the Schools

Simply Symphonic provides fourth and fifth grade teachers with training and music curriculum to bring into the classroom. Students learn songs to play on recorders or sing, and each spring they attend—and perform with—Symphony Tacoma at a live concert in the Pantages Theater.

Symphony 2U provides instruction, coaching and adult mentorship for underserved students. Now with eight programs in elementary, middle and high schools—as well as one-to-one coaching and masterclasses, Symphony Tacoma musicians engage with young musicians who would otherwise not be able to benefit from private lessons.

For Adults

Symphony Tacoma is a proud partner of Cascade Conducting, which offers an annual masterclass in conducting led by Sarah Ioannides each June at Pacific Lutheran University. Visit the Cascade Conducting website to apply or learn more about the program.
